Need to respond to China's growing might in Indian Ocean: Navy chief
NEW DELHI: The Indian armed forces will need to respond to China's rapidly-expanding military might, especially its growing naval footprint in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), within their budget limitations and other constraints, said Admiral Karambir Singh on Thursday.
"We will have to watch China carefully," said the Navy chief, a day after Beijing released a white paper titled "China's National Defence in the New Era". While China lashed out at the US and its strategic moves in the Indo-Pacific region, the white paper referred to India only in the passing, stressing that Beijing was striving to promote security and stability along the India-China border.
The Navy currently has around 140 warships and 220 aircraft, but many of them are slated for progressive retirement. With proper funding, the force hopes to become a 212-warship and 458-aircraft force by around 2030.
Now that Modi and BJP are there, it will take time but it will eventually be done. Keep in mind, they have to make up for 70 years of Congress and others destruction of India.

Poor Helpless India can do nothing but watch carefully the Chinese dragon. Congress suckered India worst than Mughals and British combined in last 70 years.

Good reason to buy more naval weapons from abroad.

We should buy the best weapons and at the same time encourage our indian companies to enter defence manufacturing sector.

It is not possible to match China here. They have more money, and a strong merit policy. India has a strong pro-mediocrity policy of reservation. All these shameless hypocritical politicians have ensured that reservation will now increase to 95% within next 5 years. If there is a war with China, India will be royally skrood.

it clearly states that China is on offensive mode, because our geographical structure states that we cannot attack them by sea. So instead of defending them why don't we maximize our strength where we can counter attack them on offensive mode.
Create fear in them also.

No country can Offord a war now. It is just deterrence our Navy Cheif is talking about.
War would mean large scale destruction in the entire Asian region or even beyond that.
Chinese just play psychological warfare.
Their prime focus like USA remains on how to strengthen their economy.
Our politicians loot their own country where USA & China loot other countries.

India can never beat the Chinese economy for the simple fact that we are very lethargic and our politicians are very enthusiastic to keep us lazy and give freebies right from birth to death and don''t encourage people to work. As long as the work culture like china or israel is not encouraged and talent is ignored under the guise of all round progress India cannot match china

not surprising the Chinese do not care about the Indians..power respects power..Indians are only concerned with Bollywood and cricket..who cares about which Bollywood star is vacationing where? cricket played by less than 10 percent of the world..the Chinese understand the Indian mind...

China will never engage in war, it will strongly affect its economy and it will gain nothing. We must first fight our corruption , poor governance and joblessness. They are our worst enemies

At 50 billion USD, India spends far more on defence than it can afford. While at 200 billion, China spends far LESS than it can afford. It can raise its defence spend to a trillion without batting an eyelid. Moreover, China indigenously produces everything, while India imports virtually everything. No way India - an ELECTION DEMOCRACY with fake concern for the ever increasing population of GAON GAREEB VOTERS can compete with Chinese might.
